Tropical Storm Hermine Update

A hurricane watch is in effect for Dixie County.

A Tropical Storm warning is also in effect for Dixie County.

Tropical storm force winds are expected to reach our coast by Thursday at Noon.  

An evacuation order will be issued Thursday at 8am.

A general population shelter will be open Thursday at 8am.  The shelter will be located at the Old Town Elementary  School at 221 SE 136 Avenue Old Town, Florida.

The Special Needs Shelter for Dixie will be open Thursday at 8am.  The Special Needs Shelter is located at the Bell Health Academy; 930 South Main Street, Bell Florida.

Dixie County is expected to receive 9-12 inches of rainfall within the next 48 hours. This would cause minor to major flooding.  A flash flood watch has been issued for Dixie County.

Storm surge is a major concern for Dixie County.  Current weather predictions have us with a possible 5-7 feet  of storm surge. This would cause minor to major flooding.

We encourage you to stay up to date on the latest forecast, review your preparedness plans and build/replenish your emergency kit and take appropriate steps to ensure your safety.
